For decades, Janine Tucker-Kummer has been a steady force of compassion in the greater Cadillac community. A trusted leader, she brings unwavering dedication to the well-being of others. Her journey in adult foster care began with a personal calling – to uplift lives with dignity, respect, and love.
With fierce determination and a heart for service, Janine opened and licensed several successful AFC Homes. Each one reflected her core belief: everyone deserves to feel safe, valued, and at home.
In 2008, Janine saw something others didn’t – the possibility. A foreclosed 20-bed facility appeared rundown to most, but she saw it as a chance to create something beautiful. Together with her family, she lovingly restored the home from the ground up. Their work went beyond renovations. They poured in soul and purpose.
By 2009, Pleasant Lake Lodge opened at full capacity. It wasn’t just a building – it was a sanctuary built on trust, warmth, and genuine care.
As the need for quality care grew, Janine responded. In 2011, she built Pleasant Lake Lodge North to meet rising demand. It opened at 75% capacity and filled within two weeks – a powerful sign the communities trust in her leadership. Families didn’t just choose her homes – they entrusted their loved ones to them.
Why? Janine’s name became a synonymous with compassion, excellence, and integrity. Her homes weren’t institutions – they were families.

Pleasant Lake Lodge is now a thriving 40 -bed assisted living community, operating at full capacity with a growing waitlist. Families trust us because we go beyond basic care. We offer comfort, dignity, and connection – the kind that brings peace of mind.
