Frequently Asked Questions
Finding the Right Home Starts with the Right Answers.
We understand that finding the right care setting can feel overwhelming. Our goal is to help you feel confident and informed every step of the way. Here are answers to questions families often ask about life at Pleasant Lake Lodge.
What is an Adult Foster Care (AFC) home?
An AFC home provides 24-hour personal care, supervision, and assistance with daily living in a comfortable, family-style environment — offering a balance between independence and support.
How is an AFC home different from a nursing home?
AFC homes are smaller and more personal. Residents receive individualized care and attention in a homelike setting, rather than the clinical atmosphere of a large facility.
What types of care do you provide at Pleasant Lake Lodge?
We offer assistance with daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, grooming, meals, medication management, and mobility — all in a safe, supportive environment that feels like home.
How do I know if my loved one is a good fit for an AFC home?
If your loved one needs help with daily living but doesn’t require ongoing skilled nursing care, an AFC home is often ideal. We review each resident referral to ensure we can meet their care needs appropriately.
How much does it cost to live in an AFC home?
Costs vary based on care needs and room type. We’re happy to provide detailed pricing after reviewing your referral form to make sure the care plan and home fit your loved one’s needs.
What are your staff qualifications?
Our caregivers are trained in CPR, First Aid, and AFC-required care standards. Each team member passes background checks, TB testing, and ongoing training to ensure safe, compassionate service.
What is the process for admission?
Start by completing our Resident Referral Form. Our team will review the information, contact you to discuss your loved one’s needs, and, if appropriate, schedule a tour and assessment before admission.
What should we bring when moving in?
We recommend bringing comfortable clothing, personal care items, favorite bedding or décor, and any mobility aids or medical equipment your loved one uses. We’ll provide guidance before move-in day.
Who provides medical care or medications?
Our trained staff manage daily medication administration and coordinate with physicians, pharmacies, and home health providers as needed to ensure continuity of care.
Can family members visit anytime?
Yes — family involvement is always encouraged! We just ask that visits respect residents’ routines and quiet hours to ensure comfort for everyone in the home.
What activities do residents enjoy?
Residents enjoy a variety of activities based on their abilities and interests — from crafts and music to outdoor time, seasonal events, and visits with therapy animals. We believe in keeping life engaging and joyful.
How are meals handled?
All meals are home-cooked and tailored to residents’ dietary needs. We serve balanced, nutritious dishes and accommodate special diets whenever possible.
